The Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education (Visual Impairment)
(DDCSE) operates under the University of Delhi. The college was established in
2006 by the Blind Relief Association in Delhi and is also recognised by the
Rehabilitation Council of India. The college has been named after the mentor of
the Blind Association, Dr. Durgabai Deshmukh.
Courses taught
The DDCSE offers Degree qualification at the postgraduate level. Duration
for the Bachelor of Education in Special Education for Visually Impaired
full-time course is 1 year. The course is affiliated to the Delhi
University.
Each year, the DDCSE grants admission to 20 students. Education and
practical training to students is imparted by highly experienced teachers. The
college’s infrastructure, which includes a library, resource room and
computer laboratories, provides every opportunity to students to explore and
widen their knowledge, and experiment and learn in an educationally rich
environment. The Bachelor course aims to develop and improve students’
professional and personal skills so that they may successfully impart education
to children with special needs. The DDCSE also shares it premises with the JPM
Senior Secondary School for Blind, which is a practicing school for the
blind.
The Visual Impairment Bachelor course includes the following papers:
• 4 Core papers
• 3 Specilisation papers
• 2 Methodology papers
• Practical work
Admission Eligibility:
• Candidates must have a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree
(or its equivalent).
• Candidates must secure 45% aggregate marks in the admission
examination.
Students must secure 40% in individual theory papers, 50% aggregate in
Theory and 50% aggregate in Practical to qualify for B.Ed.
